Jan. 30-Feb. 3, 2017
Dear Parents:
Spring is in the air, and some students feel as though it is time to slow down, and give their studies a break. This is not the case, and there are those who are falling down, by not turning in their work, or just deciding not to do it. These choices are hurting grades. Every student has the opportunity to make up work when they are absent, however, they must come to the teacher to find out what is missing, and be willing to stay after school in some cases to complete the assignments. Please have a talk with your student, and keep up with grades on Power School.
We will be working hard to review our basic reading and writing skills, along with the strategies learned to make our assignments easier and more meaningful. It is important that we have fluency and an understanding of vocabulary when we are reading, along with great sentence fluency and conventions (capitals, usage, punctuation, and spelling), when we are writing. Students can use their class notes to practice nightly.
We will be working on the following:
A. Reading Literature: Twelve Angry Men / The Adventures of Charlotte Doyle
B. Connecting Literature to Writing, with the use of strategies
C. Sentence Fluency with the use of Proper Conventions
D. Elements of Literature with use of Annotations
E. Focusing on Standards to be able to connect with any type of reading material
Please use Google Classroom and Power School to keep up with daily information and your
student's grades. Let's keep the lines of communication open so your child has a successful school year.
To everyone, a happy and healthy holiday season.
Sincerely,
Gail Tolson
